Victron 712 Install

Hi we have a 2019 Unity MB and have installed a Victron 712 smart shunt between the neg post of the battery and chassis ground bolt but it shows a parasitic load of 5 amps which seems high.  The other issue is that when starting the engine it shows a 25 amp draw.from the house battery.  What's with this?  Did I wire wrong,  bad IRD or what?  Thanks in advance for the help.

When installing the Smart Shunt, the goal is to have all of the grounds that go to the battery go through the "system" side of the Shunt first before the battery. This will ensure that you are picking up all of the power going in or out of the battery from all sources.

Once the Shunt is installed it needs to be programed for the specifics of your battery system. Battery type, AH of total battery bank, charged voltage, etc.

After you program the Shunt settings DO NOT calibrate the shunt. Plug your RV into shore power and allow the batteries to reach full charge. This will "sync" the batteries to the Shunt so it will start displaying accurate information. Until this first full charge the Shunt may not display accurate information.

Depending on the year of your coach a 5amp draw might be reasonable. Make sure your inverter is off, this will reduce the draw by an amp or so. Also try to turn all of the lights, water pump, fans, winegard, digital TV antenna and anything else off. This will give you a better idea of your "standby" draw.
