Lagun tables in Unity TB - experiences anyone?

Hi all,
We have a 2023 Unity TB and are finding the pedestal table such a pain that we never use it. I have been looking at installing lagun tables on the two seats behind the driving seats. I am finding that the dimensions and the cutouts in the seat supports make this a bit more challenging than I had hoped. I am wondering if anyone has installed lagun tables in their Unity TB and can send me pictures and specs of their install?
Thanks in advance!

Deb,

I have a 2018 TB.  I think everyone unanimously agrees that the pedestal table is just a poor idea.  I wonder why LTV has not come up with a better idea in five years.  I see the same pedestal design in other small RVs, and I think no one likes them.  Several owners have installed this table support.  One owner installed two of them; one on each side.  Maybe you will hear from him.  He had pictures and his installation was quite robust.

I bolted the Lagoon support onto the seat base just behind the driver's seat. The support under the seat is some kind of honeycomb wood material that is not too sturdy.  It required a back up piece of plywood down to the floor to make it sturdy enough.  Other than that it was not too difficult.  I used the original pedestal table top and it works fine except that it seems a bit heavy.  The support has shifted a tiny bit and the table is no longer completely level, but it is close enough.  I may go back in and adjust it when I have time.

The table rotates into a position behind the driver's seat and out of the way.  I can raise it up and make it even with the counter top if I choose to do so and that makes the left side more desirable than the right.  Then I can rotate the table out in to more than one position, and the table can be folded or unfolded depending on what I need to do with it.  So far I am happy with it.  I will try to get some pictures.

Hi
I install two tables on my 2015 UTB on two Lagun mount
It is the best improvement on my RV

My tables fold behind the front seats giving more room
In a few seconds they are locked together level and solid.
When together they can be close to the rotated seats for
bigger working room (I didn't put a picture of that)
or at the original location when eating. When locked
together they can also be turn  to give easy access to the seat.
If interested I have a few more pictures.

Jack I love this configuration with the two tables on Lagun bases. Question is where did you source the table tops?
BTW I also have have a 2023 UTB

Hi
I made the table top myself of of cherry wood like my cabinets.
Before making the finals table tops I made some out of construction plywood
because it took a few trials before finding the proper location for the Lagun base under the table.
I add a few pictures of the plywood tops and also a picture of the locking hardware holding
both parts together. There is a picture of half the table in front of the passenger seat witch is rotated handy to watch TV or work on the computer.
We can do the same with the driver seat and the other half of the table.
I have some picture of the install bracket and how they are installed on the seat base if you are interested.

Thanks for the responses!
Those are wonderful tables Jack and Tim. Jack, what a great idea to enable the complete table out of the two. You have done everything I was hoping to accomplish except one thing. I was hoping that adding the tilting table base on to the lagun table mount would let me store the table tops vertically behind the driving seats and completely out of the way. Looks like that is likely a no go.
Jack, it would be great if you are able to send pictures of how you mounted the backets or a description at least of the bracing you did in the seat compartments to give them the needed strength.
I had been hoping to avoid making my own tables but yours look well worth the effort. I guess it is time to get out my woodworking tools!

Tim and Jack,
One other question, were you also able to take off the floor pedestal table mounting bracket and fill in the hole to get rid of the tripping hazard? Was that easy or is there a gothcha if you try that?
Also, did you use the traditional lagun mounting bracket or the newer slim bracket?
Thanks again.

Hi
The base for the bench behind the driver and passenger are made of thin plywood ,light and strong enough for
the purpose they were made bout not strong enough to hols the tables.
I made a mock-up of the reinforcement that I want out of plywood and had a welding shop laser cut them and bend
them to my spec. When I do something it is always extra heavy duty. I want the tables to be sturdy. I even install a brace on
each of those bracket going to the bolts going to the seat belts under those bench. The brackets are held with screws on the floor
and with bolts to the Lagun base. With the Lagun kit there is a taper shim the size of the base bracket  in case it is needed to
made the table level. The leg of the Lagun was too close to the seat so I add a 1 1/4 inch white plastic spacer so that the leg is
farther from the seat cushion. Mine is a 2015 and on newer model the base for the seat maybe made of thicker plywood so less reinforcement maybe needed.
If we want to travel with friends in a  minute we remove the table and store it under a bed .
On my RV when I remove the base for the old table there is only the six small holes for the screws , a little carpet hide every thing.
Tomorrow I will take a few pictures of all the position that you can place the tables , during travel, while cooking or washing the dish,
when dining, while watching TV . I made a few improvement to my RV but the table is the most useful . The table was the only thing that we didn't like but now problem solved. I can give you the part number for the hinges and for the lock to put under the table to lock both together

Hi
here are a few more pictures
In one picture you can see the table split in two facing the front seats that are rotated, handy to watch TV, work on the computer.
In 3 other pictures you see the complete table near the backrest of the two seats rotated again , plenty of room to cook and wash the dishes
In two picture you see the table at the same place as original , diner for four.
What is very important is the placement of the Lagun base under the table so they can be rotated in every position without problem.

If you want more information just ask.

Thanks Jack,
Those pictures really convinced us to do the same thing you did. That looks amazing! Any chance you drew up dimensioned drawings for the tables and brackets? Or did you only make plywood versions and copy them? I would love to just exactly copy your design and mounting locations. You clearly already did all the hard work of figuring out what will work.

The seat plywood on ours is even wimpier than yours. Now instead of thin veneer over the frame, they have a plywood frame that has the whole center of the side cut out and a metal or plastic screen covering the hole. The plywood only extends 1.5 inches in from the edges before the screening on the sides of the seats where I will need to install the lagun tables.
Thanks again,
Deb

Hi Deb

I am willing to help you as much as I can if you want to make two tables like mines.
I can give you the part number for all the hardware needed.
During the weekend I will put the heat on in the RV , It is a bit cold here now.
Then I will remove the top of my seats and take  closeup pictures of the bracket holding the table leg.
Also a picture of where I put the braces going to the seat belt bolt.
I will also make a drawing of where to put the bracket under the tables. All the big trial and error are already made.
How handy are you with wood working ?
Can you post a few pictures of what it look like under your seats , both seats .
After finishing this project you will be more than happy with the result.

Hi Jack,
That would be awesome. I am not as expert as you are at woodworking but, I do ok. I have a small table saw and a router. I would love dimensions on your two tables along with the specs on the mounting. I need to figure out a metal working shop to get the bracing. I assume your white spacers are some form of plexi? I have a tap plastic near me so I should be able to get spacers made for what I need. I think I can design my own braces so no need to get cold out in the camper to get me pictures. What you sent already gave me what I need. I have a mech eng degree so I am not useless at figuring out what I need to do to provide enough structure to support the table brace and its torque.

I really appreciate your willingness to let me ride off all the hard work you did to figure out the tables!
Thanks!
Deb

Hi Deb

Just to keep up with the table project here are a few more pictures of the bracket under the seats.
On the driver side you see the aluminum angle going from the seat belt bolt to the bracket.

On the passenger side you also see the angle going from the seat belt bolt to the bracket, The hose for the gas heater is
a bit tight to fit but not impossible.

There is also a picture of the wood model , easy to make with thin plywood and hot glue. You can try them to see if there is a problem before bringing them to a shop to be made ; they can see exactly what you want.

There is also a PDF file showing another brace behind the driver you need the angle and this other brace because there is not a lot of screws on the floor.
I also put this PDF as a test because i will put the dimension on pictures instead of making drawings , it will be easier for me this week end.

On another subject did you made any other modification on your RV ?

Have a nice week end

Jack

Thanks Jack,
These additional pictures are helpful. I will be about a week before I get to building a mock-up and trying to get the braces built. Right now, I am working on adding under-carriage LED lighting to keep critters at bay and am testing out the LED string + dimmers in the rainstorm coming today before I install. I have also changed over to new shocks, and leaf springs on our coach to get better handling. A nice feature they also added was a throttle booster that gave me dramatically better responsiveness on the accelerator.

I plan to order the irvwpc and install it for the water pump and I added an extension and aerator to the kitchen sink. We also moved the paper towel holder to be hanging from the overhead cabinets. I've also been adding motion sensor rechargeable lights near the various control panels and in all of the outdoor storage cabinets.

We have only had the camper about 8 months so I am just getting started but I hope to get all the big things and the really annoying things done right away. We have already spent 4 months in the camper on the road.

Hi Deb

Here is my update for today,

First about your other modifications it look like that you are making changes so that your RV is more to your liking.
What kind of motion sensor lights did you install ?
I also did a few of the same improvement that you did. New shocks , HD roll bar , Sumo springs to name a few.
The towel holder I install it in one of the overhead compartment over the range; my door are quite curved so I don't
loose space and the towel roll hold the plates and bowl during travel.

Back to the table. The PDF is a drawing that I made of under the table on the driver side.
There is a picture of the pins and matching holes to keep the two tables top in line when they are join together.
There is four pins total.
One picture show where is the table leg according to the front of the bench. There is a picture of the extra brace ans the
screws on the floor
there is three pictures showing that it is quite a tight fit when turning the table to the store position.
Making the table top a little smaller can help if needed. I want the largest possible table.
If you need more information or need things like the parts number for the hardware just ask.

Now I hope that you will give me a followup when you do the project and a few pictures if possible.

Jack

So, I am assuming the two tables are identical in dimensions. Any chance you can send the rough distance from the edge of the table bracket to the edge of the 24" long edge of the table? It looks like around an inch? I think I am all set for now! I will most certainly send pictures once I get the project underway. Depending on how fast I can get the bracing, it might have to wait until summer. By the way thanks for doing things in inches  :D I was expecting to get centimeters.
By the way, the lights I am using are on Amazon.com "LED Closet Lights Wireless Motion Sensor Puck Light, Newest Version USB Rechargeable Dimmer Step Light with Remote, Night Safe Lighting for Under Cabinet, Counter, Kitchen, Hallway, Stairs (6 Pack)". I also have used them under our vehicles to keep pests away as a temporary solution at times.

Hi Deb

First I start with a picture of my towel holder, as you can see not a lot of space is lost and the towel roll hold the plates and bowl
during travel.

Back to the tables now, I post a new PDF for the table behind the passenger side and a I add a few measurements to the one behind the driver.

My base are genuine Lagun , there are some copies sold on Amazon (at a better price ) but I don't know if the dimensions are the same
I forgot to tell you that I add a spacer behind the bracket and the base for the leg , not to crush the thin plywood of the base of the seat.

The difference in the position of the Lagun base on the two tables is the total of the little difference in the position of the seat base on the floor, the difference in the position of the table leg on the seat base , and the difference in the padding on the cab side of the tables . What was important for me was the position of the tables in storing while traveling , I don,t want them to rub on the side wall to the cab and the one on the driver side on the counter extension .
This is why I made a mock-up of the tables with cheap plywood an cheap flat mount hinges and try that at different position holding it with only a few screws . When it was the way i want , I transfer that to my good table top .

We are mostly neighbor if you want to come see my install, just little more than 3000 miles.

If something is not clear or need more information just ask.

Have a nice day

Jack

Here are pictures of the insides of our seats. I will need to make different brackets than yours. I will also make inserts to fill the hollowed out wood areas. I just talked to Tap Plastic here and they say they have Starboard in 1.5" thickness that should work for our standoff to account for the seat cushion overhang. I also found a metal shop willing to make my brackets. I am still putting the finishing touches on my design. As you can see, it would be difficult to reach the seat belt bolt so I am not planning on doing that. Once I get the legs installed, then I will figure out the tables since my leg mounts will inevitably end up in slightly different places than yours. I will also need to use blanks. I will probably make mine out of cardboard. The other thing I am hoping to accomplish is to try the folding table top option and see if I can get the tables to fold out of the way a bit more. Below are some pictures including our paper towel holder which is reusing the bracket it came on. I added labels to the images to help with orientation. I am also planning on using genuine Lagun table legs.

For your braces, it looks like you used ~1/4" (6 mm) aluminum. Is that correct?

Re: Lagun tables in Unity TB - experiences anyone?

Hi Deb

For my bracket i use indeed 1/4 in. aluminum.
Under your seats it quite different than mine. The seat belt bolt on mine was mostly in line with the bracket.
You have a lot of place on the floor to put screws.
I am happy that you keep on with the project , I am sure that you will be more than satisfied with the result.

Please keep on with the pictures as you progress. Your towel holder is also an improvement.

Not to change the topic, but has anyone noticed the newest unity has a receiver, the pipe thing, in the front that now has a Lugun adaptor on the other end?  It might be worth a look.

This is such a genius solution. I just ordered the 25 URL and I believe it will only come with 1 table for both the front and rear. I look forward to something similar when I receive the RV.
