Extended Warranties

We are buying a 2014 LTV Unity MB with 50K miles; Battle-born lithium batteries, 2000w inverter, 400w solar, Kenwood entertainment system upgrade / Sirius, nav, etc., side cameras, propane generator, electric leveling, continuous hot water. The interior /exterior, prior to detailing was in excellent condition. Only flaw I could find was the lower section of the chrome full ladder was bent in but still useable and sturdy. No damage to the rear mask.  Tires dated 2020 w/less than 4K miles. We are buying from a reputable dealership in Oregon at $86,900. Of course, they want to sell us an extended warranty, 3 years / 30K miles for $6,000. I said no, so he wants to counter. BUT, with no prior experience with a Mercedes Benz diesel LTV I am a little cautious. I have already located a light truck company (5 hours from where I live) that is highly recommended and will service the rig with certified technicians at affordable prices compared to local dealerships. I live in Longview, Washington a hour north of Portland, Oregon. Any pearls of wisdom and experience would be greatly appreciated. Contract should be signed within the next two weeks. Also, I have tried and tried, but was unable to find a mobile MB RV mechanic to at least provide preliminary examination.

warranties are part of the profit centre for dealers.  the issue is that the chassis is Mercedes but the house is Triple E (Leisure Travel Van) in Manitoba.  Most of the fix it  things on our 2016 Unity so far has been the LTV components not the MB components. Like batteries; propane service, tires, wheel balancing etc...
Check to see if the recall has been done on the exhaust.  The Sprinter forum has lots of info when you do a search.  That extended the warranty for 10 yrs.  Unity | Sprinter-Source.com
I have only had the Sprinter at the dealer once for the recall - the other things are at an RV dealer and at tire shops including getting the oil changed at a truck tire shop.
I do have a full set of tools for the job though so the small stuff I have been doing myself.  and I got 4 bolts for the driveshaft with a socket that will fit the Torx bolt so the driveshaft can be dropped for a flat tow by any wrecker.  I got the bolts at an MB dealer - there were about $1 each.  They are needed because the one you take out can not be resused when they put the driveshaft back.
for the ladder see if the bottom part is there as there is an extension that came with the original.
Check to see if they changed the chassis battery and if the voltage is at 12.7V - you can test from under the hood. It takes a torx T15 to get to the battery in front of the drivers seat.

It sounds like you would be qualified to do it on your own for the most part. I would not loose any sleep about getting a qualified mechanic out. If the shoe fits wear it.

Not a lot of miles either and seems like a good price.

Thanks so much. I'm having it checked out mid-month, along with having a TPMS flow through system installed. I can't wait to begin my first mini adventure end of month.
