Mud lights over cab doors remain on
Hi, all. New owner of well-kept 2013 U24MB. LED mud lights over cab doors on both sides refuse to turn off. They have ruined the chassis battery draining it (replaced) and are ruining the house batteries. (They are exterior white LEDs that shine down on the cab door steps and immediate area, located above the top of each cab door, in the house cab overhang, one each side.)
Mercedes says even though they are wired into the chassis battery, they are aftermarket and Mercedes is unable to work on them. However, their Sprinter tech confirmed that those lights are supposed to work in conjunction with the interior lights, which light up when you open a cab door, then fade on a timer after you close the door and insert the key, or when exiting the cab, when you lock it or are away from it after a few seconds.
The only way we know to turn them off is to disconnect the battery switch in the floor well, near the acceleration pedal. We have tried every other switch in both chassis and house, and none will turn them off. The tech, after checking a few things, confirmed that as it is operating now, there must be a short in the aftermarket (LVT) wiring harness.
My questions :
1. Has anyone else had this problem?
2. Is there a switch, either mechanical or electronic, that will fix this, and we just haven't found it?
3. Does anyone have advice as to fuses, wiring, any other ideas on repair or workarounds besides killing the chassis battery?
The good repair company has a 2 month backlog. Yikes. I still made the appointment, BUT...Those lights are considered an obstructive component while driving at night, and could get me ticketed. Not to mention the constant drain on the batteries. So not good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
