Glue for Outside Storage Door Brace

The glue connecting a brace with a hydraulic cylinder on one of the outside storage doors on our Unity failed, and we are resorting to a dowel to hold the door open. I tried JB Weld, but even though it stuck to the aluminum bracket, it didn't stick to the fiberglass door in spite of me roughing the inside surface up. Any suggestions on an adhesive, please?

there is a service bulletin #SOP02515 done by LTV "Service RTM Baggage Door Strut Bracket Repair" with pictures.
file is attached.
if it does not work and you are using myLTV you can chat with someone - they usually get back in a few days.
fyi -  the hydraulic cylinder is called a gas strut.  It is a good idea to get new ones if they are older then  4 yrs old.

cbaarch, thanks for the help. During my first attempt I pretty much did what the document suggested, but I didn't use alcohol. I'll put more effort into sanding the fiberglass, which will aid making the JB stick, and use the alcohol. I'll report back.
