I pick up my Island Bed next week, only 19 months waiting..., 

The dealer is asking if I want an  optional "Eckbond" paint/glass/interior sealant for only $2000... they can have it done before I get there.

If LTV uses a 5 step paint process, why would I need such a thing?  I'm inclined to think that this is finance-office "snake oil" and just say NO, but I'm curious to see if this is in use and needed, or if it's an add-on (like "undercoating" at the car dealer) designed to add profit to the bottom line...

Your thoughts?

We got a similar up sell and my wife pointed out that our biggest issue in vehicle detailing is bugs. The nice lady at the dealership very quickly convinced her that the product would be almost like Teflon for bugs and cleanup would be much easier. After a spirited negotiation on price, we agreed to have the product applied. I have no idea what other positives it was supposed to have, but bug guts still stick like glue and bake on. I've seen no benefit in cleanup ease. As far as paint fade protection goes, too soon to tell.

Thanks Killtimer, I've sent the email declining the option.  Research is showing true ceramic coatings that I can have a professional detailer apply at a fraction of the dealer cost that will do the job more reliably.  This one didn't pass the snIff test,  I think we made the right decision.
