Title: 2015 Unity 3 L diesel, 6 cyl
Post by: Bradley on July 07, 2019, 09:57:20 am
We are considering purchasing a used Unity. Very low miles.  It was not driven for quite a while also.  We have never driven a Diesel or Class B Plus. Always have had travel trailers, gas trucks.  Test driving it seems very slow, almost sluggish on acceleration.  When up to speed, seems ok.  Dealership says this is normal for this size...any comments from other owners?

We have a 2014 Unity 24MB. The weight to HP ratio is about 60:1. We always are towing a 2008 Jeep Liberty at about 3800#. As a comparison, our previous coach was a 52000# Older Newell at 475 HP ...or about 100:1. The Unity has adequate performance and comfortable power. Oh yeah. 14mpg for the Unity versus 6.67mpg for the Newell. At 65mph on the highway, I find a very good ability to maintain speed in most circumstances. On steep, long hills I can keep up with most Over the Road trucks, so I feel comfortable.

So, power is adequate for most of our traveling situations. I have not pulled 10000 to 13000 passes, yet. The previous owner felt that tall passes were excessive for the Unity, so he would disconnect and his wife would drive the toad. I can’t help you on that. Others in the group may have that experience.

Thank you both for your replies, much appreciated. Another question, If I'm not mistaken the Wonder has a ford engine.  How would you rate the performance?

Yes, the Wonder has a 5 cyl diesel, 188 hp+-.
I tow a Hond Fit, have no problem to keep up, maybe avg 65 mph and get 15+ mpg.
Years ago had Sprinter class B, I think performance was similar.

We also have the Ford Wonder, very happy with the performance and MPG is around 16.
